Jeffrey Anzevino: Tugspotting on the Hudson photographic benefit
Underground Coffee & Ales
March 13, 2016 from 2-4 PM
Jeffrey Anzevino has been making photographs for over 40 years. His subjects have ranged from the southwest coast of Florida, deserts of Arizona and Utah and, most recently, Italy’s Messogiorno. However, since moving to the Hudson Valley 25 years ago, he has most consistently turned his lens toward the subjects he loves best: Walkway Over the Hudson, the Hudson River, and the variety of commercial vessels plying its waters.
Based in Highland a short bike ride from Walkway, Anzevino uses a sophisticated satellite tracking system, computer apps, a bicycle and 15-foot boat to photograph tugboats and barges, ships, and other vessels passing along the Hudson River. But he specifically enjoys scenes at Walkway Over the Hudson.
His extensive archive of tugboat digital photos dating back to 2008 is the reservoir he taps to create the world most extensive inventory of tugboat calendars available. In 2016 over 40 different calendars are available featuring tugboats from various companies, icebreakers, tugboats and lighthouses and even calendars featuring individual tugboats. The tugboats are popular amongst captains, crews and family members as well as maritime transportation companies. But sometimes, when waiting for a tugh, the Hudson River’s beauty just unfolds before his eyes.
For the first time, a collection Jeff’s photographs will be on display in one place. Underground Coffee and Ales will feature an assortment of selected photos featuring tugboats, Walkway Over the Hudson and perhaps other surprises. Jeff will be on hand on Sunday March 13th from 2-5 PM to greet guests, talk briefly about his technique and answer questions.
In addition, Jeff is a musician and the founder of the Hudson Valley Bluegrass Association. As part of the program Jeff has invited his bandmates in Rich Hines & The Hillbilly Drifters to perform set of original songs and other favorites celebrating the Hudson River.
As a fundraiser to benefit local Hudson River Sloop Clubs, Anzevino will donate the proceeds of his 1990s era color image, “Hudson River Sloops” as a 20x30 inch canvas print. The winning bidder can specify the donation to either Hudson River Sloop Clearwater or Beacon Sloop Club.
Finally he will donate the proceeds of one Walkway Over the Hudson 20x30 canvas print to Walkway Over the Hudson.
Other photos will be available for sale.
